Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
Sept. 7-13, 2020
South Central Correctional Center: On Sept. 7, 2020, two officers were assaulted by an offender. The offender threw a liquid substance believed to be urine on both staff members. The officers both declined outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
South Central Correctional Center: On Sept. 9, 2020 at approximately 1:10 p.m., an officer was assaulted by an offender. The offender pushed the officer in the chest then struck the officer in the facial area three times. Staff responded and gained control of the offender. During the process of restraining the offender, another officer received bite marks on one of her wrists. Staff members declined outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Moberly Correctional Center: On Sept. 12, 2020 while conducting a cell search, an officer received a puncture to the hand by a needle attached to a hidden homemade tattoo gun. The officer did seek outside medical treatment. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Potosi Correctional Center: On Sept. 12, 2020 at approximately 1:42 p.m. a staff member was assaulted by an offender. The offender struck the staff member in the head and face with closed fists causing him to fall to the floor and hit his elbow as well. Staff gained control of the offender. The staff member declined outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
