Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
June 3-9, 2019
Northeast Correctional Center: At approximately 8:44 a.m. June 3, 2019, while an officer was escorting an offender, the offender resisted and stopped walking, turning toward an officer. Officers placed the offender on the ground. Several additional officers responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. During the restraint, an officer injured their left shoulder and received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 8:14 p.m. June 4, 2019, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender struck one officer multiple times in the face and kicked the officer in the stomach. The second officer was struck multiple times in the face. Additional officers responded, and the offender was restrained. Both officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Missouri Eastern Correctional Center: At approximately 7:18 p.m. June 5, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer and a food service worker. The offender struck the officer multiple times in the face with a closed fist. The officer fell, knocking the food service worker into a filing cabinet. An additional officer responded appropriately, and the offender was restrained. The officer did not require outside medical treatment. The food service worker received outside medical treatment. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Southeast Correctional Center: At approximately 1:23 p.m. June 6, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struck the officer multiple times in the head and face, knocking the officer to the ground. The offender placed himself on top of the officer and continued to strike the officer in the head and face. Several officers responded appropriately, and the offender was restrained. The officer received lacerations of the left eyebrow, right brow, right cheek and upper lip. The officer was unconscious for several seconds and has nasal bleeding. The officer was taken by ambulance to receive outside medical attention, including a CAT scan. The scan was clear and showed no signs of serious head injury. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. The assault will be prosecuted.
Crossroads Correctional Center: At approximately 8:17 a.m. June 7, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struck the officer multiple times in the head and face with closed fists. The offender kicked the officer in the stomach with his right leg. The offender then placed both arms around the officer’s neck and bit the officer’s face. Additional officers responded appropriately, and the offender was restrained. The officer received multiple strikes to the head and face and broken skin and pulled away from the officer’s face in multiple spots. The officer was taken by ambulance to receive outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. The assault will be prosecuted.

The offender struck the officer on the left side of the face with a closed fist. Additional officers responded, and the offender was restrained. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
